The Masters of Fine Arts program at the Arizona State University, Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, School of Art has encouraged, challenged, and nurtured many talented artists throughout the decades. And although a trend has been for students to come to Arizona to live for a few years in the desert only to leave after their studies are complete, many artists stay and become strong mentors and anchors in the Valley artist community. This exhibition highlights these artists and the bonds that they have forged in the local art scene.
The exhibition Artists: In Residence showcases twenty recent MFA graduates from the ASU School of Art who have made the Valley their home, who have created roots, have led and mentored, and who will be examples to the next round of artists who follow in their footsteps.
The artists included in this exhibition work and/or reside in Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale,
Paradise Valley, Avondale, and Chandler, AZ. They are full time or part time artists, arts administrators, city arts employees, educators, curators, arts advocates, and art preparators. They have embedded themselves into the culture of the art scene in the Valley in leadership roles, and are at the forefront of the progress that is occurring in the Valley art scene.
